Perhaps more so than ever in the current climate of economic uncertainty, scholars and students of English (and the
humanities in general) are under pressure to justify why they do what they do. In this session we will read and
discuss a selection of short recent philosophical, ethical and political reflections on the value of English Studies
from German and Anglo-American perspectives.
