Reactive DPD of Scott-Gray

white: V, blue: W, red: U
The interplay of traditional reaction-diffusion pattern formation with self-assembly pattern formation can be investigated using reactive DPD simulation.
The Scott-Gray mechanism of resource dependent cooperative replication, which exhibits self-replicating spot patterns as a reaction-diffusion system, exhibits well-defined self-replicating aggregates when the catalysts interact favorably.
Note that the reaction scheme differs from the usual Scott-Gray mechanism in that the reactions conserves the number of molecules. The water/waste species W serves as a reservoir for waste products and for the recreation of the resource U.
